As part of my consultation process, I get as much context as possible from a client about their current training, past training and future goals and objectives. We then also discuss the equipment they have available to them, how many times they’re able to train each week and a load of other factors too.

I then start building training programmes which meets clients needs having taken all of that context into account! However if there are changes along the way, then we can always tweak programmes as we go – nothing is set in stone.

Below are some of the key factors I consider when building a training programme for a client:

  • Exercise selection

  • Intensity

  • Progressive overload

  • Rep ranges

The above are some (not all of the factors) which I consider when building a programme for a client. However, logistical considerations and personal preferences also play a massive role in deciding what a plan should look like. Ultimately, if a client is better able to complete their sessions and they’re enjoying them too then they are more likely to stay consistent, therefore unlocking better results!
